Mel was the oldest of two children. He was born in Crystal City Manitoba and raised on the farm in Glenora, Manitoba by his parents Ken and Joyce McElroy and his sister Kathy.

Mel married Helen in June of 1969. They lived in Craven and raised their three children, Jamie, Danielle and Sherie.

Mel owned the Craven Motor Inn and the Craven Esso.

Then Mel became a salesman, where he realy enjoyed meeting people and travelling. He started carpentry and continued doing this when he and Helen moved to Cabana in 1998 where he lived for the remainig years.

Mel is predeceased by his parents. Mel will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
